DESCRIPTION OF THE GLOTTODRAMA TRAINING COURSES FOR TEACHERS
The Glottodrama Academy is a research and teaching centre member of EUROPEARLL (European Association for Performing Arts Applied to Language Learning). From 2017 the name of the managing organization is changed in International Language Academy and has moved from Rome to Fermo. Here the Glottodrama Academy is part of the University College San Domenico of Fermo. The college is located in a magnificent and ancient building in the heart of city centre. The town of Fermo is a medieval “pearl” full of art and history and it is placed on a hill overlooking the Adriatic Coast. It is just a few minutes away from beautiful sandy beaches and students who will join our summer sessions will have also the chance to combine the course with a beach holiday. If you want to start a virtual tour of Fermo and its fascinating surroundings, please visit the following link: www.comune.fermo.it/en/ (click in the window the icon on the bottom right to activate the audio of the video-clip).
Each session of the course lasts 2 weeks and provides lessons from Monday to Friday. A programme of cultural and social activities, organized in the afternoons and during the week-end, completes the course with excursions to art cities (Rome, Florence, Venice), guided visits of the beautiful surroundings, wine tastings and culinary experiences. Cost of the course (tuition only) is 700 Euro.
The main objective of the training is to make candidates familiar with the theoretical principles and the practical application of the Glottodrama Method. The method, which integrates drama techniques in language teaching, shares the principles of the communicative approach and proposes an original CLIL solution strongly action-oriented. The Glottodrama has been developed by an international consortium through three consecutive projects supported by the European Lifelong Learning Programme (2007/2014): www.glottodrama.eu
The Method has been successfully tested by several educational institutions in 8 European countries with excellent results in terms of improvement of oral and written skills. Today it is applied with the support of specific pedagogic materials to the teaching of 9 idioms as FL/L2: English, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, French, Romanian, Bulgarian, Greek and Turkish. The Glottodrama Projects have been awarded twice with the European Language Label (2010- 2014), a seal of excellence given by the EU Commission to best projects in the field of language learning.
The final scope of this training is to enrich the professional background of language and drama teachers in order to exploit the pedagogical advantages introduced by the method and with a wide range of beneficiaries: pupils, university students, adults, immigrants, professionals. Therefore this course is suitable for teachers and instructors operating in any educational institution from primary school to higher education.
According with this format the course lasts 2 weeks and provides 40 hours of class tuition. 10 lessons of 4 hours (Monday to Friday) in the morning plus some homework and self-study in the afternoon. English is the basic working language of this international seminar.
The programme is both theoretical and practical and it is sub-divided in 3 phases. In the first step an introduction to the principles of the communicative approach is provided and the structure of the Glottodrama method is presented together with some specific teaching aids.
In a second step the candidates taste a real application of the method and experiment directly the wide range of learning activities through a short “Glottodrama workshop in Italian as a foreign language” where they become “students”. In a third step, after a common discussion of the workshop activities that always end with a video-recorded acting performance played by all participants, the candidates are required to plan a Glottodrama Teaching Unit applied to their native or working languages. Then these projects are evaluated by tutors and discussed with students. All candidates receive learning tools in a digital and paper format including a Guide to Glottodrama Method and a Glottodrama Resource Book both available in 9 languages. An attendance certificate is issued to successful candidates along with the Mobility Europass upon request. The registration fee for this course in 2018 is 700 Euros including tuition and teaching materials. Pre-course and follow-up activites are envisaged by the programme.
Before the starting date each candidate receives via mail some teaching materials and a questionnaire. At the end of the course all successful candidates, holding the required professional background, will become “Glottodrama Qualified Teachers” and will be registered in the International Directory of Glottodrama Tutors. A basic requirement in order to teach in any official Glottodrama class organized all over the world by the members of the Glottodrama Academy.
